How to Become a Teacher
Blog posts focused specifically on becoming a teacher. This is primarily focused on lateral or residential entry in North Carolina, but some of these articles will help you out no matter where in the US you live.
My Journey
Hi, my name is Sarah and I’m a 6th grade ELA teacher in Eastern North Carolina. After I moved back to the US, went through a messy divorce, and sorted some stuff out, I realized the one thing that held my family together during one of the toughest moments of my life was some amazing teachers. This inspired me to get into the field myself.
I work at a Title 1 school with one of the largest percentages of multilingual students in my county. While middle school is never a cake walk, it’s even harder if you aren’t a native English speak and/or live below the poverty line. I absolutely love my students and the amazingly diverse environment they bring to the school and wouldn’t have it any other way.
I hope to help other teachers (and would-be teachers!), especially those with limited resources like myself. I always look for budget-friendly ideas, free or low-cost resources, and love a good classroom DIY.
